As I type this, there’s a fire alarm going off somewhere on campus. The kids across the lounge are comparing its relative silence to the relative incoherence of RPIAlert while playing mah jongg. Yes, real mah jongg.

Eirian’s comment seems kind of poetic. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it actually insightful, but it does at least reflect an interesting way of looking at the world.

Y chromosomes make for a great excuse to not spend time on one’s appearance, though. Except for business suits, I suppose. But, women don’t really get a free pass on those either.
Fire alarms at 3AM in January suck. I walked down 7 flights of stairs, still 95% asleep, then stepped out into the snow and WOKE UP to realize I was barefoot and wearing shorts and a tanktop. Fail.
I keep telling myself I need to learn mah jongg. The anime Akagi just makes it look so awesome, and it really does seem much more intense and strategic/cerebral than poker.
