The things I (get to) do to seek out inspiration while school isn’t in session…
Played my first game of Civ IV! I make fun of it a lot, and now I have even more reasons to poke fun at it (well, not so much Civ specifically as my roommate who plays a lot of it). I was going for a cultural victory (and was more than halfway there) when I suddenly got a diplomatic victory. Huh. That was unexpected.
… and now I am addicted to Spock talking to me about things. Seriously, that game has an awesome soundtrack.
Dave plays Civ IV for stretches, and I love hearing Spock!
One of my favorites: “We will make electricity so cheap only the rich will burn candles” ~ Thomas Edison
Interesting, when I first played Civ IV I was going for a space race victory, and accidentally got a cultural victory.
“The bureaucracy is expanding to meet the needs of the expanding bureaucracy.”
So the guy who does all the voices is spock?
I love Civ IV! I suggest you try Rome and Medieval II Total War. All the turn based with real time strategy battles. Also, I’m glad to see the wasabi peas worked.
And I just love that someone else actually says “grumblecakes”.
Bahaha, Civ IV really *does* do that… I remember once we commandeered the study lounge in Crockett and stayed up all night playing Civ IV… Of course, we did that far more often with GTA IV, and because of us, they actually enforce the “No LAN Parties in the Study Lounge During Finals” rule. Thank goodness Polytech doesn’t have that problem XD.
I’m more of a fan of CIVIII myself. Civ IV seemed to go for flash over substance. In fact flew in VERY late Thursday night (or was it Friday morning when I got ?) and played CIVIII until 4:00 AM. (Hey, I had left home in a good position, ready to crush the Egyptians so couldn’t wait to get back to it.)
I remember we’d turn off certain cultural settings, and as a result, I’d almost always try giving the Japanese Christianity or Judaism… Dunno why, but it amused me.
I never could get into playing the Civ games. Tried one once, had it on the easiest settings and watch this single unit of spearman take out all my cities and troops. Never went back to the game…
Leonard Nimoy is the reason I play Civ IV. 🙂
