Despite not being a heavy gamer (curse you, 3D-induced nausea!), I still feel incredibly lucky to have been able to go to such a huge event in my beloved geeky culture — especially the first (and hopefully not last) of its kind. PAX EAST was phenomenal. Such family. Such camaraderie. Such awesomeness. When Wil said “welcome home,” it really rang true.
Perhaps I found a couple new readers, too. In case you’re one of the few people who snagged my card, welcome to Enjuhneer! I hope you like what you see.
Anyway, I wanna give a huge thank you to Foam Brain Games for the opportunity to go to PAX EAST. I went with them and helped man their booths, and got a hell of an experience out of it.
I now need to consume the entire discography of MC Frontalot (once I get a hold of the other disks… he is now on my Artists Whose CDs I Will Actually Buy list). I had heard of him previously from Overcompensating, but I hadn’t got a chance to hear his stuff until Friday night. So much love for the nerdcore!
… Am debating if I want to sleep first. Mmm… sleep…
Did you actually get to talk to Jonathan Coulton? He opened for They Might Be Giants down here in Atlanta just a few weeks ago. I quickly figured out just how awesome and utterly cool a nerd could be. He took the classic geek stereotype and, with some help from his musical talent, turned it on it’s end. Also, his beard is awesome. Someday, I want a beard like his.
PAX was a lot of fun. Thanks for coming out with us 🙂
Videogame Orchestra FTW!
In terms of cosplayers, I was really impressed by the four guys who dressed as the Ghostbusters (complete with really awesome packs) and the Bayonetta girl.
@Crawford Both probably would have made the list had I actually seen them. Heard of both, though, and heard they owned some face.
Also heard about the L4D witch that was in perfect character, but I didn’t see her either. That tends to happen at a 50k+ convention.
@Frosty No, I didn’t get to talk to JoCo — due to time constraints I didn’t get to stand in many lines — but I saw him in concert and he pwns some serious face. I did get to talk with MC Frontalot though, and he is one chill dude.
Glad you had a great time!
I still need to see JoCo BUT my parents got me the CD for my birthday (I had wanted to send him some $$ for a while, so it was really nice.) I totally owe his music for getting me through some tough hours at a job that didn’t suit me.
